Vera Wany is an American fashion designer known for her wedding gown collection, among other specialties.

Vera Wang was born June 27th 1949 in New York City. The daughter of affluent Chinese immigrants, She grew up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She attended the Chapin School and the School of American Ballet, Sarah Lawrence College. Wang briefly studied in Paris at the Sorbonne, she later returned to the United States and completed her art history degree.

As a girl, Wang trained as a figure skater, and competed at the 1968 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. When she failed to make the U.S. Olympic team, she entered the fashion industry and began working for Vogue magazine. Within a year, at the age of 23, Wang was promoted to senior fashion editor. In 1987, she left Vogue to take a job as design director for accessories at Ralph Lauren. In 1990, she opened her own design salon in the Carlyle Hotel in New York which featured her trademark bridal gowns.

In 2005, the CFDA selected Wang as the Womens wear Designer of the Year.

In 1989, Vera Wang got married to Arthur Becker.

Vera Wang lives in New York City with her husband, and her two daughters.
