Launched in 1971, this FLORAL\GREEN fragrance was named because its birthday was the 19th of August. It was designed for a spirited woman who cherishes her freedom. It came out the year before Chanel died and helped to celebrate her eventful life. Brought up in an orphanage, Chanel opened her first Parisian boutique in 1914 and later branched out into perfume. By 1935, she employed 4,000 seamstresses and was confident enough to turn down an offer of marriage from the famously wealthy Duke of Westminster with the witty aside 'There are many Duchesses but only one Chanel'. Top notes are floral and green while middle notes include Florentine Iris, one of the most expensive fragrance ingredients. The base features cedarwood and oakmoss.
